SUBJECT: Award of Bid #F9901-53 for Portable Air Compressors (RTC #99-103)

REPORT IN BRIEF

Approval is requested for the award of a contract to Ingersoll-Rand Company of San Leandro for three portable air compressors for the Department of Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division.

BACKGROUND

The three units are to replace existing equipment which is on the replacement schedule for 1998/99. The portable air compressors are required by the field crew to power various types of equipment. The units will also be useful in aiding the City’s emergency crew during a major disaster.

DISCUSSION

Specifications were prepared by Public Works and Purchasing staff and Invitation for Bids #F9901-53, and eleven local suppliers known to provide this type of equipment were notified that the bid invitation was available via the SunDIAL fax-on-demand feature. Four bids were received which are summarized below:

Staff recommends acceptance of the low bid.

FISCAL IMPACT

Total cost to the City will be $39,925 (includes sales tax). Funds are available in Public Works Account #020700-5135.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that Council award a contract in the amount of $39,925 to Ingersoll-Rand Company of San Leandro for three portable air compressors and authorize the Purchasing Officer to issue a purchase order to that effect.
