Whereas, Chapter 9.84 of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code prohibits those under the age of 21 from entering in or remaining in any establishment where alcoholic beverages are served and where a pool or billiard table is available for public use; and

Whereas, the Code further prohibits the management of any establishment serving alcoholic beverages from permitting any person under the age of 21 from entering and remaining in the pool or billiard playing area; and

Whereas, the City Council wishes to study the matter of allowing those 18 years of age and older to engage in the non-alcohol related activities of such establishments; and

Whereas, the proprietors of such establishments have requested the City consider a trial period for allowing those 18 years of age and older in pool and billiard halls;

SECTION 1. Commencing with the effective date of this ordinance, through June 30, 2000, those 18 years of age and older shall be allowed to engage in non-alcohol related activities in pool and billiard halls, notwithstanding the provisions in Chapter 9.84 of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code to the contrary. This provision is not intended to conflict with or supersede any requirement of state law concerning the service or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
