The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) Board Rotation Schedule requires the City of Sunnyvale to select a Councilmember to serve as a regular member of the VTA Board of Directors for a two-year term. Staff recommends Council appoint a member to serve on the VTA Board of Directors.

Regular and alternate members rotate among the VTA member cities in accordance with the VTA Joint Powers Agreement and established VTA Group 2 Cities’ Rotation Schedule (attached). Currently, the City holds alternate membership, held by Councilmember Valerio. For the VTA 2000-02 schedule, the City will hold regular membership. Accordingly, the VTA is requesting that the City Council select one of its members to serve as a regular member of the VTA Board of Directors for a two-year term, to commence with the VTA Board meeting of January 5, 2000. Normally, Council makes all of its intergovernmental assignments in January. However, action is requested at this time due to the VTA’s Board of Directors’ meeting of December 16, 1999, at which time the Board will select its Chair and Vice Chair for the coming year. The selection of an alternate is not required, as the City of Palo Alto will hold the alternate position for 2000-02.

There is no fiscal impact to this report.
