This report recommends an amendment to the Classification Plan and Salary Resolution by the creation of a Regular Part-time Accountant classification in the Department of Finance.

The Finance Department has grown in complexity, partially due to a sophisticated automated Financial System and has continuously been reorganized to address its growing needs, one of those needs is the ability to have flexibility in schedule to fill for permanent gaps that do not require full-time staffing. This classification scheduled for 21-30 hours per week fulfills that need on a department-wide basis. This also creates an opportunity to recruit and retain experienced staff that is not available on a full-time basis.

This new classification will create ability for the department to staff with a greater flexibility professional accounting staff to perform a variety of routine and non-routine accounting related functions as needed.

The job code, proposed pay range and salary steps for the Accountant – Regular Part-time classification are indicated below:

Funds to cover the full cost of this classification will be absorbed under the existing base budget.

The public will be informed by placement on the City Council Agenda. The Union (SEIU) has been provided copies of the job descriptions.

That the City Council adopt Alternative 1 above to accomplish the proposed Amendment to the Classification Plan and Salary Resolution.
