Approval is requested for the award of a contract to Melrose Ford of Oakland for seven compact pickup trucks for the Department of Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division.

The requested vehicles are compact pickup trucks with V-6 engines used by the Parks and Recreation Department to support crew members in the field. These vehicles will replace seven existing compact pickup trucks which are on the replacement schedule for 1999/2000. The existing vehicles are experiencing high downtime and high maintenance cost. These conditions warrant replacement.

Fleet Maintenance, Parks and Recreation and Purchasing staff prepared specifications, and Invitation for Bids #F9911-42 was made available to nineteen vendors known to provide compact pickup trucks, including three Sunnyvale dealers.

Four bids were received:

Bid pricing includes sales tax and delivery to the Sunnyvale Corporation Yard and a 36 month/36,000 mile warranty.

Total cost to the City will be $97,396. Funds are available in Public Works Account #020700-5135.

It is recommended that Council award a contract in the amount $97,396 to Melrose Ford of Oakland for seven compact pickup trucks and authorize the Purchasing Officer to issue a purchase order to that effect.
