SUBJECT: Acceptance of Improvements - Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road Signal Interconnect, TR-97-3
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council, by resolution, accept the project as complete and satisfactory.
DISCUSSION
The Contractor, PEEK Signal maintenance, Inc., has satisfactorily completed the Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road Signal Interconnect project within the allocated budget and for the final contract amount of $210,852.00.
The work included replacement of traffic signal control equipment and interconnect cable at five intersections with new state-of-the-art control equipment, and radio communications from City Hall to each intersection. Also included in the contract was the installation of a sophisticated computer and traffic signal coordination software, and radio and transmitting antenna.
The work was done because the existing traffic control communications equipment and cables on Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road, from Alberta-Harwick to Sunnyvale Avenue-Talisman Drive, were old and had outlived their useful life. Additionally, significant increase in traffic volume over time resulted in a need to replace and upgrade the existing equipment. The City was awarded a federal grant of $213,300 for this purpose.
The project was inspected by the Public Works Project Administration Section and found to be satisfactory. Acceptance is, therefore, recommended.
