SUNNYVALE CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 23, 2001
The City Council of the City of Sunnyvale adjourned from a 6:30 p.m. Study Session regarding Labor Negotiations - Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and met in regular session in the City Council Chambers, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California, at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Walker presiding.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
David Simons gave an update of the recent activities of Leadership Sunnyvale.
Werner Gans stated that the OSH stores recently were conserving energy by turning 50% of their lights off. He stated that we should cut down on electrical usage by 10% to alleviate the energy crisis.
Councilmember Valerio made announcements on behalf of Council. He invited all residents to attend the final open house being held to receive public input on the quality of life in Sunnyvale. Two open houses were held last week and the final one will be this Thursday, January 25 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Ortega Park Multi-purpose Room, 636 Harrow Way. Residents may stop by any time during the open house; it will only take about 15 minutes to participate. If residents are unable to participate in the open house, they may still provide input by visiting the City’s website.
Councilmember Valerio further announced that Councilmember Miller has been appointed to the Finance and Personnel Committee for the Association of Bay Area Governments. This association, whose purpose is to address issues of concern to this region with both state and federal government agencies, is made up of representatives from the local governments in the nine Bay Area counties.
Councilmember Valerio then requested that tonight’s meeting by adjourned in memory of Thomas H. Sweeny, former City Manager of the City of Sunnyvale, who passed away December 9, 2000.
Vice Mayor Fowler announced that at 6:30 p.m. this evening, a special meeting for a closed session on labor negotiations with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) was held, and that no action was taken and direction was given.
CONSENT CALENDAR
Councilmember Miller requested that Item 1.D be removed from the consent calendar. Councilmember Valerio requested that Item 1.L be removed from the consent calendar.
Vice Mayor Fowler moved, and Councilmember Miller seconded, approval of the Consent Calendar, with the exception of Items 1.D and 1.L. The motion carried unanimously.

Councilmember Valerio moved, and Vice Mayor Fowler seconded, approval of the staff recommendation. The motion carried unanimously.

Sr. Management Analyst/Deputy City Clerk Kelly presented the staff report.
City Manager LaSala, Acting Community Development Director Rose and Acting Public Works Director Dettle responded to Council questions regarding scheduling of items on the calendar and status of projects.
Mayor Walker opened and closed the public hearing at 8:00 p.m.
Vice Mayor Fowler moved, and Councilmember Vorreiter seconded, approval of the calendar of study issues and meeting dates to be held and cancelled as shown on Attachment A to the report. The motion carried unanimously.
Vice Mayor Fowler moved, and Councilmember Vorreiter seconded, approval of the Study Issues Priorities List as shown on Attachment B to the report. The motion carried unanimously.
Vice Mayor Fowler moved, and Councilmember Vorreiter seconded, approval of Budget Modification No. 23, in the amount of $150,000. The motion carried unanimously.
