STUDY SESSION: Wolfe Road

MINUTES
SUNNYVALE CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 13, 2001

The City Council of the City of Sunnyvale adjourned from a 6:30 p.m. Study Session regarding the Wolfe Road Environmental Impact Report and met in regular session in the City Council Chambers, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California, at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Walker presiding.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

Vice Mayor Fowler announced that last week on February 5, the City Council met in closed session regarding the City Manager's performance, and no action was taken.

Councilmember Risch made announcements on behalf of the City Council. He stated that the City's Purchasing Division received the 2001 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. The National Purchasing Institute established this annual award to recognize the achievement of organizational excellence in public procurement. He congratulated Finance Manager Elaine Wesely and the members of the Purchasing staff for their commitment to excellence and professional dedication that made this award possible.

Councilmember Risch also reminded citizens that Mayor Walker will have office hours at City Hall on Mondays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents may drop in or call Pat Dorsey, Council Executive Assistant, at 730-7473, for an appointment.

Councilmember Vorreiter announced that Assistant City Manager Amy Chan was awarded the 2001 John H. Nail Memorial Award which is given by the City Manager's Association of the League of California Cities for the most outstanding Assistant City Manager in the State of California.

Vice Mayor Fowler moved, and Councilmember Valerio seconded, approval of the consent calendar. The motion carried unanimously.

Award of Bid for Backup Power Generation System for Sewage Lift Stations (F0011-38)

   

Staff Recommendation: Award a contract in an amount not to exceed $114,950 (bid amount of $104,500 plus contingency of $10,450) to HR Electric and Engineering of Los Altos to furnish and install a back-up power generation system for the Lawrence and Arques Sewage Lift Stations.

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS

There were no scheduled public hearings.

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD

Dahl Phelps apologized for her outburst last Tuesday, and stated that she went to Sacramento for the PUC meeting and it had been moved to San Jose. She also stated that she has been concerned about the use of gray water but is also encouraged by the recent amount of snow and rain.

NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS

COUNCIL

Mayor Walker stated that he had received a request from Councilmember Miller to support the position of adding a seat to the Regional Airport Planning Committee to represent the Sunnyvale- Mountain View contingent. Since the City does not have a legislative policy on this, the Mayor was seeking Council direction on this matter.

Councilmember Roberts moved, and Councilmember Miller seconded, to support the position. The motion carried unanimously.
