| SUBJECT: | AMENDMENT TO THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND SALARY RESOLUTION: TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYEE |
REPORT IN BRIEF
This report recommends amending the Classification Plan and Salary Resolution to include the newly developed classification of Transitional Employee.
DISCUSSION
This classification has been created for the sole purpose of transitioning a limited number of temporary employees to regular City employment, while classifications are being developed. The classification is limited-term, to be effective April 16, 2002 and to expire on June 30, 2003. Appointments to this classification will only be provisional, and shall not exceed one year of service.
This classification supports the City’s Temporary Employee Policy which was designed to acknowledge and fairly compensate employees for their contributions to the City, by allowing employees to be placed in regular employment pending development of classifications specific to the functions of the job.
FISCAL IMPACT
The increase in costs associated with moving current temporary employees with limited benefits to regular, benefited employment is expected to be absorbed within a department’s operating budget. The increase in costs will also be included for Fiscal Year 02/03 projections.

Pay Range: $10.00 to $55.00 per hour

Adopt Alternative 1; approve inclusion of the new classification into the City’s Classification Plan and Salary Resolution.
