| SUBJECT: | BOARD AND COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS FOR 2002 - PHASE I SPRING RECRUITMENT |
REPORT IN BRIEF
On June 3, 2002, Council interviewed 12 applicants for 18 vacancies on City Boards and Commissions. Staff recommends Council make its appointments from the applicants listed below.
BACKGROUND
Spring recruitment for citizens interested in serving on a City Board or Commission was conducted from March 27 to May 17, 2002. Approximately 50 applications were distributed to prospective candidates and 17 applications were submitted. One applicant withdrew his application and asked that he not be considered for an appointment. No applications were received for Arts Commission, which has one vacancy, or the Personnel Board. which has two vacancies.
The Board of Library Trustees received a letter of resignation on June 3 from a member whose term expires in 2005. This created a second vacancy on the Board. Jennifer Lantz submitted an application for the Library Board and Gerald Gras submitted and application for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory board but they had a conflict and could not make the interview session. However, their applications are in the binder and should be evaluated with the others as they indicated they are still interested in being appointed. The Child Care Advisory Board received one application and if an appointment is made this Board will have five seated members and two vacancies. The Heritage Preservation Commission received one application and, should the Council choose to make an appointment, there will be six seated Commissioners and one vacancy.
Staff has verified that all of the following individuals meet the residency and voter registration requirements, as applicable.
