AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE AMENDING CHAPTER 16.24 OF THE SUNNYVALE MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADOPT BY REFERENCE THE "2001 CALIFORNIA PLUMBING CODE" WITH CERTAIN DELETIONS AND AMENDMENTS THERETO
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. REPEAL. Ordinance No. 2600-99, and all prior ordinances pertaining to this subject, are hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. CHAPTER 16.24 ADOPTED. Chapter 16.24 entitled "2001 California Plumbing Code" is hereby added to the Sunnyvale Municipal Code, to read:
16.24.010. Title.
This chapter shall be known and may be cited and referred to as the "Uniform Plumbing Code for the City of Sunnyvale."
16.24.020. Adoption by reference.
The "2001 California Plumbing Code," based on the 2000 Uniform Plumbing Code, promulgated by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, is hereby adopted by reference, with changes and modifications as hereinafter set forth, as the plumbing code of the city of Sunnyvale. Three copies are on file in the office of the city clerk.
16.24.030. Definitions.
The following terms are hereby redefined:
The term "Administrative Authority" is amended to read "building inspection superintendent."
16.24.040. Appliances--condensate disposal.
Uniform Plumbing Code Section 807.2 is amended to read:
Section 807.2 Condensate Disposal.
Condensate from air-cooling coils and comfort cooling equipment not intended to be used for the storage or holding of food or drinks shall be collected and discharged to a storm sewer or other approved points of disposal acceptable to the building inspection superintendent.
Termination of such drains shall be made by an air break. Condensate drain lines in sizes 1-1/4" and larger shall be assembled using approve drainage pipe and fittings. Condensate waste water shall not drain over or upon a public way, sidewalk, pedestrian ramp or the like. Condensate drains within the interior of a building shall not be connected to the building roof drain or overflow piping systems. The waste pipe shall have a slope of not less than 1/8 inch per foot and shall be of approved corrosion-resistant material not smaller than the outlet size as required below for air-cooling coils or condensing fuel-burning appliances, respectfully.
Condensate wastes pipes from air-cooling coils shall be sized in accordance with equipment capacity as follows:

The size of condensate waste pipes may be for one unit or a combination of units, or as recommended by the manufacturer. The capacity of waste pipes assumes a 1/8 inch-per-foot slope, with the pipe running three-quarters full.
Condensate drain sizing for other slopes or other conditions shall be approved by the building official.
SECTION 3. EXEMPTION FROM CEQA. The City Council finds, pursuant to Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations, Section 15061(b)(3), that this ordinance is exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in that it is not a Project which has the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. The Council therefore directs that a Notice of Exemption be filed with the Santa Clara County Clerk in accordance with
Section 14 of the Sunnyvale Guidelines for the implementation of CEQA adopted by Resolution No. 193-86.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect on November 1, 2002.
SECTION 5. POSTING AND PUBLICATION. The City Clerk is directed to cause copies of this ordinance to be posted in three (3) prominent places in the City of Sunnyvale and to cause publication once in The Sun, the official newspaper of the City of Sunnyvale, of a notice settting forth the date of adoption, the title of this ordinance, and a list of places where copies of this ordinance are posted, within fifteen (15) days after adoption of this ordinance.
