REPORT IN BRIEF

Approval is requested to amend an existing contract with Avoca Trucking and Excavating, Inc., of San Francisco for the Wolfe/Evelyn Pump Station Water Main Replacement Project for the Department of Public Works Project Administration (Project #UW-99/02-00).

BACKGROUND

On May 1, 2002, Council awarded a contract to Avoca Trucking and Excavating, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $276,259 (bid amount of $240,225 plus a 15% contingency of $36,034) for the Wolfe/Evelyn Pump Station Water Main Replacement Project.

DISCUSSION

A Notice to Proceed was issued in June 2001; and the work began. During the course of the work, field conditions discovered by the contractor conflicted with project plans and specifications. Record drawings did not match actual pipe locations; and additional excavation was required to mark locations.

FISCAL IMPACT

The additional work was performed on a time and materials basis. Additional expenditures total $11,300 for a new contingency total of $47,334 and a new contract value of $287,559. Funds are available in Capital Project #821080 - Replace 24-inch Water Mains - Wolfe/Evelyn Pumping Station. No increase in Council-approved budget is required.

 RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that Council authorize additional expenditures of $11,300 under an existing contract with Avoca Trucking and Excavation, Inc., for the Wolfe/Evelyn Pump Station Water Main Replacement Project.
