Approval is requested to amend an existing contract with Linear Options, Inc., of Menlo Park for the Caribbean Drive and Arques Avenue Bike Lane Project for the Public Works Project Administration Division (Project #TR-00/02-02).

On June 25, 2002, Council awarded a contract to Linear Options, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $122,230 (bid amount of $106,286 plus a 15% contingency of $15,944) for the construction of bike lanes on Caribbean Drive and Arques Avenue (RTC 02-262).

During the course of the work, it was discovered that the design consultant had incorrectly measured the required material quantities. This error increased the contract quantities, necessitating an increase in striping materials and requiring additional funds. As a result, an additional payment not to exceed $35,000 is required in excess of the original bid amount of $106,286.

Total final cost to the City for the Caribbean Drive and Arques Avenue bike lanes will not exceed $162,480 (revised contract amount of $141,286 plus a revised 15% contingency of $21,194).

This project is funded from outside grant funds from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air and the Transportation Development Act. No increase to Council-approved budget is required.
