A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE DESIGNATING THE STRUCTURE LOCATED AT 505 S. MURPHY AVENUE, SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, AS A LOCAL LANDMARK PURSUANT TO SECTION 19.96.060 OF THE SUNNYVALE MUNICIPAL CODE

WHEREAS, the City of Sunnyvale has adopted an historic preservation ordinance in order to preserve the City's heritage resources for future generations, which proscribes a process for designating certain structures, objects or places as local landmarks and therefore subject to specific regulations to enhance their preservation; and

WHEREAS, on October 2, 2002, at a duly noticed hearing, the Heritage Preservation Commission of the City of Sunnyvale considered an application to designate the home located at 505 South Murphy Avenue as a local landmark; and

WHEREAS, the Heritage Preservation Commission found that 1) the house, built in 1939-1940, has historic significance because it embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type of construction style – the Tudor Revival style; 2) the proposed designation may be made without imposing an undue hardship on the property owners because they support and request the designation; and 3) approval of the application is consistent with the City's goal to preserve heritage resources; and

WHEREAS, the Heritage Preservation Commission recommends that the City Council approve the application to designate 505 South Murphy Avenue as a local landmark; and

WHEREAS, the City Council held a duly noticed hearing on Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at the hour of 7:30 P.M., in the regular meeting place of City Council, Council Chambers, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California, to consider the application.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE THAT the City Council finds, based upon the reports and evidence presented at the hearing, that the home located at 505 South Murphy Avenue meets the criteria for local landmark status, and hereby designates the property as a local landmark pursuant to Chapter 19.96, Historic Preservation, of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code.
