Closed Federal Facilities |
NLC calls upon Congress to fully fund environmental remediation of closed federal facilities & that appropriations be used to complete needed remediation expeditiously to ensure economic viability of affected communities & prompt reuse of facilities |
No Policy: A number of contaminated locations at Moffett Federal Airfield are in need of remediation including two landfills. One landfill is inside the Sunnyvale City Limits, & the other is in the City’s Sphere of Influence. It is conceivable that both landfills could become City owned. The Navy persists in proposing low-cost closure clean-up methods that do not meet CA standards. EENR-5 resolution supports full funding of environmental remediation of closed federal facilities. Such funding would help the Navy close the landfills in accordance with CA standards. This would minimize both the potential environment damage from the landfills & any future liability if the City becomes the owner of the landfills. Same principals apply to other contaminated sites at Moffett that are in need of remediation. |
