| SUBJECT: | Award of Contract for New Freestanding Furniture for the Sunnyvale Senior Center (F0204-92 )(RTC#03-174) |
REPORT IN BRIEF
Approval is requested for the award of a contract to Haworth c/o Unisource Solutions of San Leandro for the purchase of new freestanding furniture for the Sunnyvale Senior Center.
BACKGROUND
A wide range of furniture is required for the new Senior Center. Where possible, furniture from the previous Senior Center will be used. New furniture will also be required, both to replace existing furniture that is beyond its useful life and to meet the requirements of the new larger facility.
Certain types of freestanding furniture, including office furniture, meeting and dining room tables and chairs, etc., can be purchased at a significant discount, using a U. S. Communities contract for Haworth furniture. For a number of years, the City has standardized on Haworth furniture due to its quality and durability. Unisource Solutions is an authorized distributor of Haworth furniture.
DISCUSSION
Section 2.08.220(b) of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code authorizes the procurement of goods through the use of another governmental, public or quasi-public entity's contract under certain conditions. In this case, the U. S. Communities contract for Haworth furniture is in full compliance with those conditions.
FISCAL IMPACT
Total cost to the City for new freestanding furniture for the Senior Center, using the U. S. Communities contract, will not exceed $64,740, including sales tax, delivery and installation. Funds are available in Capital Project No. 821370 - Senior Center Construction.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that Council award a contract to Haworth c/o Unisource Solutions in an amount not to exceed $64,740 for the purchase of new freestanding furniture for the Senior Center and authorize the Purchasing Officer to issue a Purchase Order to that effect.
