REPORT IN BRIEF |

DISCUSSION |
Section 2.08.070(b) of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code exempts from competitive bidding those situations where the solicitation of bids would be impractical, unavailing or impossible. Soliciting bids for maintenance of the City’s radio communication systems would be impossible. Much of the equipment and interface systems used in both systems is proprietary Motorola technology, and support is available only through Motorola. |
FISCAL IMPACT |
Total cost to the City for a one-year maintenance contract will not exceed $162,575. This cost includes non-emergency communication system equipment coming off manufacturer’s warranty during the past year, resulting in an increase of $18,310 over last year's cost. Funds are available in various Information Technology accounts. |
RECOMMENDATION |
It is recommended that Council award a one-year contract, in substantially the same form as the attached draft and in an amount not to exceed $162,575, to Motorola, Inc., for the maintenance of the City’s radio communication systems. |
