PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
1. Update of Potential Study Issues for 2005
Ms. Merrill reviewed the two Study Issues before the Arts Commission and entertained questions. Director Walker responded that staff is waiting to hear back from contractors regarding bids for the cost to repair/replace lighting in the Creative Arts Gallery. He also noted that staff has not yet received a response from either the Sunnyvale Arts Club or the Sunnyvale Photo Club regarding his letter dated June 21, 2004, pertaining to the Creative Arts Gallery. Staff answered the Commissioners’ questions to their satisfaction.
2. Art in Private Development Tour
To better accommodate all Commissioners, the Commission chose to postpone the Art In Private Development Tour to the next meeting, Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 5:30 p.m.
NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS
The Commissioners inquired if funds or artwork would be part of the Downtown Plan. Staff responded that Art in Private Development requirements would be applicable and that money in lieu of artwork from a project would only happen if it was determined there was neither sufficient space nor appropriate space to install artwork.
Commissioner Obrey asked if there are opportunities or a process for the Art Commission to consider appropriate art for the Downtown? Ms. Merrill stated the process will be reviewed in a Study Session on the Commission’s Role Regarding Artwork scheduled for October 20, 2004.
