2. Arts Events, Programs and Activities as Revenue Generating Sources
At the last Commission meeting, Commissioner Carney requested that this item be placed on the agenda. There was no staff report.
Commissioner Carney asked if the City has specific programs in place to request donations (like the Dorolou Swirsky donation). Superintendent Steward called Commissioners’ attention to the new revised Council Policy “Donations, Contributions and Sponsorships” in the Information Only section of the meeting packet. The RTC titled Policy for Soliciting Corporate Sponsorships and Donations (Study Issue) will go before Council on July 17, 2007.
In response to Commissioners’ questions, Superintendent Steward said the Dorolou Swirsky donation was unsolicited and the donor received significant recognition, including recognition from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Chair Harper expressed concern that soliciting more funding for the arts is a need in Sunnyvale.
Chair Harper opened the public hearing. There were no public testimonies and the public hearing was closed.
3. Commission Satisfaction Survey
Assistant to the Director Merrill explained that staff appreciates the Commissioners’ feedback and will consider changes in processes to better accommodate their needs as much as possible.

COMMISSION
Vice Chair Obrey stated he was pleased with Director Lewis’ presentation and response to questions regarding the budget review at the May 30 meeting.
Vice Chair Obrey inquired as to when the students from Euphrat Museum of Art will be displaying their artwork at the Community Center. Staff will confirm the date and inform the Commissioners.
Chair Harper welcomed new Commissioner Martin-Milius. She addressed the Commission and noted she plans to serve a four-year term and gave a brief review of her background and interest in the performing arts. She is also very interested in the artwork throughout Sunnyvale.
Chair Harper said serving on the Arts Commission has been an educational and rewarding experience. He now plans to concentrate on his own artwork.
