SUNNYVALE bICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met in regular session in the West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, at 6:30 p.m. on February 17, 2005 with Committee Vice Chair Jackson presiding.

Jackson announced a public meeting for the Cupertino Mary Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge project. On February 24th 7PM, Quillin Community Center, Cupertino CA.
CONSENT CALENDAR

Runion moved, and Gras seconded, approval of the Consent Calendar.
Gras noted that the spelling of visitor Manitakos may be incorrect.
The motion carried unanimously.

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2. Bicycle Parking Location Review – Classics at Las Palmas
The committee felt that the location at the street frontage was too exposed to potential thieves. They also felt that the bike racks should be more evenly dispersed throughout the site to provide more convenient access. They also thought that high-security racks as described in the VTA guidelines should be used.
3. Bike Map Revision
Cogill asked for BPAC recommendation regarding possible revision of the Bicycle Suitability Ratings on the Sunnyvale Bicycle Map.
Mayer moved, and Durham seconded, Show access paths on the map and show only the routes for advanced cyclist. Intermediate and beginner should be removed from the map.
Jackson requested the following Friendly Amendment to maintain the suitability rating. It was not accepted by Mayer (maker of the motion).
Jackson presented a Substitute Motion, and Gras seconded to Maintain the difficulty levels on the updated bike map in order to aid in the route choice for new bicyclists. In addition, show access paths on the updated map.
Motion Carries 5-1, Mayer Dissenting
4. Health and Safety Fair
The committee stated that they would like to be involved. They asked about details regarding the helmet fitting.
Ralph Durham volunteered to help on the day of the event.
Jackson will contact x-BPAC members and members of the SVBC to try to get at least 2 more volunteers.
5. Bike to Work Day
Jackson stated that he would research to find a video to possibly have played on Sunnyvale public access television. He also asked about the possibility of a ride involving City Council members. He also suggested that staff look into trying to get something in the Adventure section of the Mercury News.
NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS
· BPAC ORAL COMMENTS
Durham presented info that he got from Arizona stating that a safe distance to be from a bicyclists is 5 feet.
Gras requested that staff add reconsideration of Stevens Creek Trail Access to the 2006 Study Issue list.
Mayer reported a complaint that he received regarding the Traffic Calming at Mary/Blair.
Jackson reported that there was additional reflective material placed on the Mary/Blair curb. He stated that it was an improvement but still a bad situation. He also stated that the library bike locker had been fixed. He asked for an update regarding the Caltrain bike lockers and the Wolfe Road Bicycle Route project.

Cogill provided the BPAC with an update on the Borregas Avenue bike/ped bridges.
INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS
Mayer asked why there are no curb cuts in Lakewood Village proposed in this years curb cuts.
