SUNNYVALE Bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met in regular session in the West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, at 6:30 p.m. on July 15, 2004 with Committee Chair Mayer presiding.

Mayer moved, and Gras seconded, approval of the Consent Calendar. Jackson noted a correction to the minutes in his comment regarding the bike lockers on page 1-4. The motion carried unanimously. |

2. Election of Officers

Cotton nominated Mayer for Chair and Jackson for Vice Chair. The motion carried unanimously. |
3. Review Code of Ethics
The Committee decided to continue this item until the August meeting in order to discuss with additional BPAC members.
4. Sunnyvale Caltrain Station Bike Lockers
Witthaus described recent communication with JPB/Amtrak staff. They have ordered signs and decals that will indicate the regulations related to the use of the bike lockers. In addition, Amtrak police will monitor the lockers on a regular basis and will report any maintenance requirements to Caltrain.
Mayer requested an update on this issue in the August Information Only Items list.
Jackson suggested that staff request this proposal in writing. Jackson also expressed concerns over staff’s letter regarding the smart card system.
NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS
Cotton noted that the name of Lockheed Martin Way has changed to Innovation Way. Cotton also relayed a concern regarding the need for signage directing bicyclists towards the downtown when heading north on Mathilda.
Jackson requested additional business cards along with a modification to provide additional information regarding the BPAC.
Higgins highlighted the new “share the road” bumper stickers on City vehicles. Higgins also described the 7/13/04 City Council action to approve the resolution authorizing the submittal of the TFCA grant applications.
INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS
BPAC requested additional information regarding the Calabazas Creek Trail – Phase I project bid.
Jackson listed some concerns with the San Francisco Sharrows report. Jackson recommended that the Wolfe Road Bike Route signage include “Bikes allowed full use of lane” and “Change lanes to pass.”
Mayer asked about the Stevens Creek Trail project. Witthaus responded that Parks and Recreation staff will prepare a presentation for the August meeting, as they are the lead department for this project.

Cotton moved, and Mayer seconded, a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
