SUNNYVALE bICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met in regular session in the West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, at 6:45 p.m. on July 21, 2005 with Committee Vice Chair Jackson presiding.

SCHEDULED PRESENTATION
Lt. Carrion introduced himself and discussed briefly some of the recent bicycle related collisions in the City.
Jackson requested that at the next meeting public safety discuss the possibility of implementing a “zero-tolerance” policy for driver violations of pedestrian and bicycle safety.
Jackson announced that he participated in the Network Appliance Transportation Fair.

Mayer moved, and Durham seconded, approval of the Consent Calendar.
The motion carried unanimously.

1.B. Approval of Agenda
1.C Approval of 2005 Calendar
Simons introduced himself to new members as Sunnyvale’s representative to the VTA BPAC and gave an update of what was happening on the VTA level. He also gave an update of bicycle related issues on the Planning Commission.
Stawitcke introduced herself to the committee.
PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2. Election of Officers
Mayer was nominated for the position of Committee Chair. Mayer accepted the nomination. He was unanimously elected.
Durham was nominated for the position of the Committee Vice Chair. Durham accepted the nomination. He was unanimously elected.
3. Review Code of Ethics
The committee reviewed the code of ethics.
4. Bicycle Map Revision
The committee expressed a desire to see pictures of all different types of people bicycling as part of the map and cover.
Schwartz volunteered to take some pictures for the map.
5. Final Bicycle and Pedestrian Collision Analysis
The committee reviewed the MTC Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety TAP Report. They requested that some of the recommendations put forward in the report be brought forward as possible study issues. They also stated that there is a possibility that some of the most hazardous locations for bikes and pedestrians in Sunnyvale might not show up as part of this collision analysis because people avoid those locations.
NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS
· BPAC ORAL COMMENTS
Jackson requested that the BPAC be updated on the progress of the Mary Avenue Over-crossing and that the Committee get a chance to comment on project. He also stated that there are bulbouts at Blair Avenue/Bernardo that are not safe for bicyclists and need improved reflection. He also asked for an update on the Clatrain bike lockers, and SB1233.
Durham presented the committee with an informative article regarding helmet safety.
Mayer reported that there is only a temporary sidewalk on the south-east corner of Lawrence and Sandia. He requested that that be improved to a standard concrete sidewalk as part of the annual curb ramp and sidewalk improvements. He also stated that the reflectors on the traffic calming at Sandia/Blazingwood have been warn off.

Staff announced the Boards and Commission training on July 26, 2005.
