MINUTES

 

SUNNYVALE bICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met in regular session in the West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, at 6:45 p.m. on June 16, 2005 with Committee Vice Chair Jackson presiding.

SCHEDULED PRESENTATION

           

Amy Chan, City Manager thanked the BPAC for their service to the City and described three goals that the City will be working to achieve as an internal organization. Those goals included 1.) Long term financial stability for the City, 2.)Improved trust and credibility between staff and City Council, and 3.) Improved internal organizational structure, policies and procedures.

 

Jackson thanked City staff for their work with the Committee. He also raised questions regarding SB1233 and the Caltrain bike lockers. He also thanked Council for their action regarding the Wolfe Road bicycle lanes.

 

Mayor Chu thanked to committee for their service to the City. He also applauded the committee’s Bike to Work Day efforts. Additionally he gave the committee an update on the federal transportation funding legislation.

 

Simons and Akos expressed concern regarding the result of SB1233 and requested City involvement. Staff responded that we would research the issue and prepare a memo to council regarding the contents of the bill and its relation to City Policy.

Gras moved, and Cotton seconded, approval of the Consent Calendar.

 

The motion carried unanimously.

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS

 

2.                                FY 05/06 Funding Prioritization

 

Cogill presented the staff report and requested any BPAC recommendations for funding.

 

Cotton suggested that the City use the funding to promote VTA bus service.  She also suggested bike helmets, patch kits and bike-shaped pins.

 

Jackson requested that the City play bicycling videos on KSUN.

 

 

3.                                Bike Map update – Approval of text/info for the backside of the map

 

Cogill presented the staff report and requested committee approval of the content for the bike map.

 

The committee noted a few typographical errors, but had no substantive changes.

 

No action taken by the Committee on this item.

 

 

NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS

 

·        BPAC ORAL COMMENTS

 

Jackson announced that the he and SVBC will be attending the Yahoo! Transportation Fair and requested maps and materials from staff. He also requested that the bike map cover be placed on a future agenda to give the committee a chance to make recommendations.

 

Cogill stated that any BPAC member may submit images to staff for consideration for the bike map cover.
