Meeting Minutes

October 16, 2003

A meeting of the Sunnyvale Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) was held on October 16, 2003 in the Garden Conference Room, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale. Committee Chair Mayer called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

ORDER OF BUSINESS

I. Approval of Meeting Minutes from September 16, 2003. 

Motion to approve minutes 

Mayer/Cotton, Unanimous (Gras abstained)

II. Public Announcements

III. General Business/Public Hearings 

1. Study and Budget Issue Preparation  

The Committee finalized a list of candidate study issues to submit to the City Council and ranked the items on the list in order of importance. The following is a list of the study issues in ranking order.

  1. Plan Line Study for Increased Bike Space
  2. Pedestrian Safety Opportunities Study
  3. Design Standards for Bike Lanes Adjacent to On-Street Parking
  4. Sunnyvale Bicycle Plan Sub-Element Update
  5. Public Safety Officer Bicycle Education
  6. Update of Corner Vision Triangle Municipal Code Ordinance
  7. Bike Facility Requirement in New Development
  8. Transportation Demand Management Program for Higher Density Residential Development
  9. Board on Accessibility for the Physically Challenged
  10. BPAC Review of Major Sidewalk and Bike Lane Closures
  11. Regulation of Storage Containers and other Non-Vehicles in the Street
  12. Creation of a City Policy regarding the Use of the Word "Collision" instead of "Accident"
  13. Sunnyvale Bicycle Map Revision

The Committee also agreed to submit a budget item for the creation of a Bicycle Education Program for Sunnyvale residents.

V. Non-Agenda Items and Comments 

Jackson stated that the construction zone at Mary and Washington was not very visible to bicyclists after dark.
