2. Frances Street Transit Center – Conceptual Design
The City of Sunnyvale is initiating a project to improve the bus facilities located on Frances Street between Evelyn Avenue and Cappella Way and create a cohesive link between bus stops and the Mulitmodal station.
The project could consist of the following improvements:
- Three custom bus shelters
- Enhanced crosswalks, including a mid-block crossing from the Plaza del Sol to the Frances Street parking lot
- Sidewalk and light treatments consistent with the new downtown standards
- Improved waiting and seating area and bicycle parking facilities
- A VTA drivers/public restroom (this could require the loss of parking spaces).
Staff will present the Conceptual Design Concepts currently under review.
3. Pedestrian Opportunities Study – Existing Conditions Methodology
A draft methodology for the data collection along the Arterial and Collector streets for the Pedestrian and Safety Opportunities Study has been completed. This methodology will be presented to the committee. Staff asks that the committee review and comment on the proposed data collection effort.
4. Bike to Work Day Planning
The designated Bike to Work Day (BTWD) for the Bay area is Thursday, May 19, 2005. Staff will provide an oral staff report detailing coordination efforts to date.
5. Bicycle Map Revision
Staff is in the process of completing the Sunnyvale Bicycle Map Revision. This is a 2005 Study Issue. At this meeting, staff would like to determine what text and information should be provided on the map other than the map itself. This could include safety information and tips, useful contacts, ect. Samples will be provided from the existing bike map and various other sources for discussion. Please bring examples of information that you think should be included.
6. FY 05/06 TDA Allocation
Staff has received a call for projects for 2005/2006 Transportation Development Act (TDA) grants. These funds are available for bicycle and pedestrian projects and the City is guaranteed to receive $96,048 if allocation is requested.
The construction bids for the Calabazas Creek Trail have been submitted and have come in higher than expected. An additional funding $182,048 will be necessary to award the construction contract. Staff recommends that the $96,048 in guaranteed TDA allocation go toward this shortfall. In addition staff recommends that an additional $86,000 advance be requested from future year allocations in order to completely fund the project.
Staff recommends that the BPAC support the staff recommendation for allocation of the TDA grant funding.
