2.       Funding Prioritization

The Transportation and Traffic Division has a portion of its budget identified for bicycle and pedestrian related projects. No specific dollar amount has been set aside for bicycle activities, but this year it is anticipated at approximately $10,000. The Bicycle Capital Improvement Program has cited these funds as a primary source for funding. Staff believes their use to fund projects and studies related to the CIP is a high priority. The money is typically also used to fund the utility bill stuffers, promotional items, bike parking devices, Walk to School Day and Bike to Work Day.

At this time, staff is seeking input from the BPAC as to potential priorities for minor bicycle related projects other than the ones listed above. Staff recommends that Committee members make suggestions for expenditures. The Committee may also vote as to its recommended priorities for expenditures.

3.       Bike Map Update – Approval of text/info for the backside of the map

Attachment 3 includes the proposed text for the back-side of the Sunnyvale Bicycle Map. This includes and introduction, Sunnyvale facts, bicycling safety tips, BPAC info, bicycling organizations/resources, road hazard reporting, bikes on transit, and bicycle registration information. This attachment does not include the tips on “how to ride in traffic” accompanied by the instructional graphics. Those items were discussed in detail at the April 21, 2005 BPAC meeting and will be included on the map with the additional text proposed in Attachment 3.

Staff asks that the committee review and approve the staff recommended text/information for the bicycle map revision.
