Special Meeting

The Child Care Advisory Board met on May 21, 2008, in the West Conference Room, 456 W. Olive Avenue, at 1:15 p.m. Lisa Taiz, Chair, presiding. 

ROLL CALL

Board Members Present:     Carrie Bosco, Lisa Taiz, Mary Smith,
Manijeh Khazeni, Jacqueline Sell (late arrival)

Board Members Absent:      Maxine Smith, excused

Staff Present:                     Angela Chan, Youth and Family Resources Manager

CONSENT CALENDAR                     

1. A. Approval of Draft Minutes, March 26, 2008 Meeting

Board Member Smith motioned to approve the draft meeting minutes of March 26, 2008. Board Member Bosco seconded the motion.

Motion Carried Unanimously, 4-0 with Board Member Sell’s late arrival

1. B. Approval of Draft Minutes, April 22, 2008

Board Member Smith motioned to approve the draft meeting minutes of April 22, 2008.   Board Member Bosco seconded the motion.

Motion Carried Unanimously, 4-0 with Board Member Sell’s late arrival

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS

2.  The Child Care Advisory Board Members reviewed the recommended Budget and Resource Allocation Plan for FY 2008-2009.  In addition, they reviewed the Performance Budget for Program 526 in Youth, Family & Child Care Resources for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.

All board members present did not have suggestions or changes to the recommended budget.  They commented that the City should adopt the recommended budget for FY 2008-2009.  The City will hold a meeting for public comment on June 3, 2008 and Approval of recommended City budget will take place on June 10, 2008.

Angela Chan provided a summary of changes within the program activities. Staff hours will be shifted in the program budget to enhance Youth and Family Services by offering new programs such as monthly parent education workshops. 

3.   Internal (Closed-Promotional) Recruitment for Program Coordinator is underway.  Board members are invited to be on the oral board for candidate interviews scheduled for June.  If no one is selected, then the recruitment will become available and open to the general public.

NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS

The Child Care Needs Assessment on-line survey given by the Local Early Childhood Planning Council of Santa Clara County will produce a rough draft on the results on June 6. Michael Garcia wanted to thank all the CCAB Board Members and staff for doing their part.  Monica Guerra will provide Board Members with the draft results once it is available.

A special thank you to Mary Smith, Jacqueline Sell and Maxine Shea for their contribution and dedication to our Child Care Advisory Board.  You will be missed!

INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS

The Health and Safety Fair was a success.  Over 1,000 participates came to this event for shredding services, health information and safety resources for families.

Global Sunnyvale on June 21, 2008 at Plaza del Sol in Downtown Sunnyvale.
