SUNNYVALE Child Care Advisory Board

The Child Care Advisory Board met on October 24, 2006 in the Garden Conference Room, 456 W. Olive Avenue, at 1:00 p.m. with Kimberley Stewart, Chair, presiding. 

 

ROLL CALL

 

Board Members Present:      Manijeh Khazeni, Jacqueline Sell, Maxine Shea, Kimberly Stewart, Lisa Taiz

 

Board Member Absent:        Hilal Ozdemir, excused; Angela Carmack, unexcused

Staff Present:                  Robert Walker, Assistant City Manager; Linda Kim, Youth and Family Resources Manager; Stephanie Manfre, Temporary Youth, Family and Child Care Coordinator, Claire Garcia, Sr. Office Assistant

BOARD MEMBER SHEA motioned to excuse BOARD MEMBER OZDEMIR’S absence due to illness.  BOARD MEMBER SELL seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

BOARD MEMBER STEWART motioned not to excuse BOARD MEMBER CARMACK’S absence since she did not notify the Youth, Family and Child Care Resources office of her absence.  BOARD MEMBER SELL seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

BOARD MEMBER SELL motioned to accept the 07/25/06 minutes with the following correction: 1) BOARD MEMBER Taiz’s absence to be excused, due to an oversight from the YFCC Resources office.  Lisa informed the office she was going to be out of town on a conference.  BOARD MEMBER STEWART seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

With no modifications to the 9/26/06 Special CCAB Meeting DRAFT minutes, BOARD MEMBER STEWART motioned to accept the minutes as written.  BOARD MEMBER SHEA seconded the motion.

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS

Stephanie Manfre, Temporary Youth, Family and Child Care Resources Coordinator introduced herself to the Board.  The Board warmly welcomed Stephanie.


Linda Kim, Youth and Family Resources Manager reviewed with the Board, the current Council Policy regarding Boards and Commissions Attendance.

 

Stephanie Manfre provided a Quarterly Update.

 

CCAB members ranked three study issues for the 2007 Council Study Issues Workshop.  BOARD MEMBER STEWART motioned to rankExplore the City's Role in Supporting Child Care Providers Serving Special Needs Children” number one.  BOARD MEMBER KHAZENI seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

BOARD MEMBER STEWART motioned to rank “Explore the City’s Role in Supporting Center-based Child Care Programs Seeking Accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children” number two.  BOARD MEMBER SELL seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

BOARD MEMBER SELL motioned to drop “Explore Revisions to Council Policy Regarding Conference and Training for Board and Commission Members.”  BOARD MEMBER SHEA seconded the motion.

MOTION CARRIED

 

Stephanie Manfre discussed the potential 2008 Work Plan.  A draft will be presented in the January 23, 2007 meeting.

 

Stephanie Manfre requested feedback from the Board regarding the Excellence in Early Education Awards Process.  The Board brainstormed on ideas such as site visits and different marketing strategies to gain a larger pool of nominations.

 

Stephanie Manfre handed out Legislation Bulletins as a resource for child care seekers and providers for the Fall 2007 Election Season.  The Board agreed this was an informative way to educate the child care community on important legislation issues.

 

 

NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS

 

Linda Kim, Youth and Family Resources Manager announced this will be Claire Garcia’s last meeting since she will be providing full support to the Community Building, Civic Engagement and Volunteering program.  A recruitment for a full-time Sr. Office Assistant for the Youth, Family and Child Care Resources Program will occur in a couple of weeks.  In the mean time, a temporary support person will fill-in.  Linda also announced she will be leaving the city in December to pursue other opportunities.  Candidates are currently in the review phase.
