FEBRUARY 8, 2006
The Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Commission met in regular session in the Council Chambers, 456 W. Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA at 7 p.m. with Chair Lawson presiding.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1.A. Approval of Draft Minutes from Regular Meeting of January 25, 2006
Vice Chair Locke moved, Commissioner Oliver seconded, to approve the January 25, 2006, Parks and Recreation Commission minutes with the following correction on page 3:
“he readily acknowledged the achievement of his peers and . . . “
“he was readily acknowledged for his achievements by his peers and . . .”
The motion passed unanimously 4-0, with Commissioner Chuck absent.

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2. Commission Work Plan Calendar Review and Adoption
Assistant to the Director Merrill presented the staff report regarding the Commission’s 2006 work plan and reviewed the study issue dates.
Chair Lawson opened the Public Hearing. There was no one wishing to speak so the Public Hearing was closed.
Vice Chair Locke moved, Commissioner Kinder seconded, to recommend adoption of the Commission’s 2006 Work Plan Calendar. The motion passed unanimously 4-0, with Commissioner Chuck absent.
NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS
COMMISSION
Commissioner Oliver said he presented a “Park It” announcement regarding the Senior Center within the three minute timeframe allowed by Council at a recent Council meeting. He also provided the Commission’s recommendation to Council regarding the renaming of Serra Park Ball Field No. 1 to the Bob Bernhardt Field. Chair Lawson asked if Council noted or had the list of Bob Bernhardt’s significant contributions that was mentioned in the Commission’s motion. Commissioner Oliver responded that there were no questions from Council regarding significant contributions.
Chair Lawson requested that the Commissioners let him know by the next meeting if they will or will not write out their “Park It” scripts to read before Council.
STAFF
Assistant to the Director Merrill reported on the budget structure review held by Council on February 4, 2006, and noted that interested Commission members could review the Council agenda and minutes on the City’s web pages.
Commissioner Oliver noted he now receives the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) magazine.
Chair Lawson suggested that the Commissioners write out crib notes regarding Sunnyvale, such as number of parks, pools, and employees; information that they could carry with them. He noted that he is frequently asked this information. Assistant to the Director Merrill offered to prepare a fact sheet for the Commissioners that they can carry with them.
