MINUTES
SUNNYVALE PERSONNEL BOARD

The Personnel Board met in regular session in Council Chambers, 456 W. Olive Avenue.  The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. with Stephanie Saprai presiding.

ROLL CALL

Present:        Branden Fryer, Werner Gans, Glenn Hendricks,

Judith Nickey, Stephanie Saprai

Staff:           Erwin Young, Director of Human Resources

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

None.

CONSENT CALENDAR

1.    a)  Gans moved the Minutes of the March 17, 2008 meeting be approved as submitted.  Seconded by Fryer and unanimously carried.

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD

None

GENERAL BUSINESS

2.  Consideration of Employee Suggestions:

Gans moved a $250 award for suggestion # 08-44 Safety Eyewash Station at Corp Yard. Seconded by Hendricks and unanimously carried.   Suggestor: Michael J Maes, Department of Public Works.

Hendricks move a $250 award for suggestion # 08-45 Install a Light by the Gate at the Corp Yard.  Seconded by Gans and unanimously carried.  Suggestor: Lisa Panelli, Department of Public Works.

Hendricks moved a $350 award for suggestion # 08-46 Replacing Faulty Level Switches Inside Drainage Tank.  Seconded by Gans and unanimously carried.  Suggestor: Edward Lanuzo, Department of Public Works.

3.  The Personnel Board discussed their roles & responsibilities as set forth in the Charter of the City of Sunnyvale, Section 1008 of and the Council Policy Manual, Section 7.2.19. Board Member Hendricks proposed questions for feedback from City Council:

a)       is there anything additional the Personnel Board can do that would be of value to City Council?

b)       the Personnel Board is interested in knowing if the City Council would like them to be more involved with matters that may benefit the City.  For example, more involvement by the Personnel board in the City Manager selection process.

c)       is the Personnel Board meeting the City Council’s expectations?

By copy of the minutes to the City Council, Board Member Hendricks and the Personnel Board invite City Council’s input to these questions.

Distribution of updated material for handbook: Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials and Council Policy Manual section 7.2.19 pages 1-13.  Distribution of memo from Ann Durkes, Finance Budget Analyst, regarding Public Hearing on June 3, 2008.
