MINUTES
SUNNYVALE personnel board

The Personnel Board met in regular session in Council Chambers, 456 W. Olive Avenue.  The meeting was called to order at 5:08 P.M. with Karen Bushman presiding.

ROLL CALL

Present: Frank Agabah, Karen Bushman, Werner Gans

Absent: Marc Ketzel (unexcused), Stephanie Saprai (unexcused)

Staff: Erwin Young, Director of Human Resources, Tammy Parkhurst, Human Resources Manager 

Karen Bushman officially welcomed Erwin Young.  Erwin shared his background in Human Resources and his employment history.

None

CONSENT CALENDAR

1. Werner Gans moved the minutes of the July 18, 2005 meeting be approved as submitted.  Seconded by Frank Agabah and unanimously carried.

2.  Election of Chair and Vice-Chair deferred to September meeting when all Board members can be present.  Karen Bushman stated that attendance is important.

GENERAL BUSINESS

a) Consideration of Employee Suggestions:

Gans moved $250 award for suggestion #05-18, External Locking System for Utility Boxes on Turf Truck.  Seconded by Agabah and unanimously approved.  Suggestor: Mark Masamori, Department of Parks and Recreation.

Werner asked for clarification as to if there was a chart or scale on which to base the amount of the award.  Tammy said it would be checked and a response will be provided at the September meeting.  Werner said that if such a chart existed that he would want to bring Suggestion #05-18 back for additional review.

NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS

Erwin noted that at next month’s meeting Marc Hynes, Attorney for the Board, would be providing training for the upcoming Appeal of Disciplinary Action to the Personnel Board.
