NOVEMBER 18, 2003
The City Council of the City of Sunnyvale met in regular session in the City Council Chambers, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Miller presiding.

SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY
Mayor Miller, joined by Captain Greg Kevin of Sunnyvale’s Fire Bureau of Field Operations, presented Certificates of Appreciation to Lieutenant Tim Davis, Officer Gary McConnell and Officer Robert Rullan for their efforts in fighting the wildfire in Southern California.
Mayor Miller, joined by Charlie Olson, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Rose Devlin, in recognition of her 80th birthday and distinguished service to Sunnyvale as the owner and operator of Wylin’s Restaurant
Mayor Miller, joined by Fred Oehm, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Len Williams in recognition of the service of the Fire Associates of Santa Clara Valley.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mayor Miller made the following announcement on behalf of the Council:
The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for members of the following Boards and Commissions:
· Board of Building Code Appeals
· Heritage Preservation Commission
· Planning Commission
Eligible candidates must be a Sunnyvale resident and a registered voter. An information meeting will be held on Monday, December 8, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sunnyvale City Hall West Conference Room. Mayor Miller announced the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is offering Santa Clara County residents $300 to $500 rebates to retrofit wood burning fireplaces and old stoves.

Vice Mayor Risch moved, and Councilmember Howe seconded, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion carried unanimously.

Staff Recommendation: Award a contract, in the amount of $93,203, to Pentrad for twenty-one battery backup systems for traffic signals and authorize the Purchasing Officer to issue a purchase order to that effect.

Staff Recommendation: Authorize an amendment of an existing contract with Carollo Engineers for design and construction support services for the Municipal SCADA System Improvement Project (Project #UW-00/01-03), to include nineteen additional remote sites and increase expenditures in an amount not to exceed $39,650.
