The City Council met in a study session at City Hall in the West Conference Room, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California on December 14, 2004 at 6:00 p.m., with Mayor Dean Chu presiding.

Mayor Chu called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

 

Study Session Summary

 

1.  Background – Fiscal Crisis and Response

 

The Transportation and Traffic Manager provided information on the VTA’s financial status, conditions leading to the current funding crisis, and efforts by the VTA to respond to the crisis.

 

2.  Future Scenarios

 

The Transportation and Traffic Manager summarized two scenarios for the VTA’s fiscal future that the VTA has studied in detail.

 

3.  VTA Strategy

 

The Transportation and Traffic Manager outlined a proposal for a new ½ cent sales tax as a new revenue source for VTA transit capital and operating needs.

 

4.  Council Considerations

 

The Transportation and Traffic Manager discussed potential issues and impacts of a ½ cent sales tax for transportation to the City of Sunnyvale.
