The City Council met in a study session at City Hall in the West Conference Room, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California on June 15, 2004 at 6:30 p.m., with Mayor John Howe presiding.

Mayor Howe called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m.
Study Session Summary
I. Origin of Study Session
Staff noted that this presentation was to present information on the history of the 1993 Light Rail Settlement and future of Light Rail in Sunnyvale, as requested by Council.
II. Light Rail Development in the Late 1980’s and Early 1990’s
Staff described the development of the existing Light Rail transit system in Santa Clara County and the history and reasoning behind the litigation.
III. 1993 Light Rail Settlement Agreement Background
Staff discussed the background of the 1993 Light Rail Agreement Settlement between the Santa Clara County Transit Authority and the City of Sunnyvale. Also covered was the structure and format of the agreement, dispute resolution, and process for arbitration.
IV. Agreement Summary
Staff summarized the terms and the resolution of the 1993 Light Rail Settlement Agreement.
V. Legislative/Administrative History of the Settlement Agreement
Staff summarized any legislative and administrative actions taken by the City or Valley Transportation Authority as related to the 1993 Light Rail Settlement.
VI. Light Rail Development Today – VTP 2030
Staff discussed the various Light Rail Extensions that are under design and construction at the present time and Extensions that have been identified in VTP 2030 as possible for future studies.
IV. Questions
Staff responded to questions from City Council Members.
Motion
To hold a public hearing at a future City Council meeting in order to gather public input.
All Council Members support action item.
