Study Session Summary

I.                   Status of the Economic Development Program

Amy Chan stated that the purposes of the Study Session were to: update the City Council on the City of Sunnyvale economic development program; review Council goals, strategies and budget structure approved at the February 10, 2004 City Council meeting; and confirm goals for the program.

Bob Paternoster presented the Economic Development Goals that were accepted by the City Council on February 10, 2004. 

Karen Davis presented an overview of the Economic Development Program.  The overview included the program’s budget structure and the accomplishments under each Service Delivery Plan for the previous fiscal year as well as for the current fiscal year. 

Amy introduced a short video that was shown on CNBC in early July.  The video highlights Sunnyvale’s pro business climate.  The video will be used for promotion purposes and an introduction by the Mayor will be added.   

III.          Discussion

There were various comments and questions discussed by the Council Members.

Action Items:

·        Council Member Miller asked for a list of community presentations made by Economic Development

·        Vice Mayor Chu asked for a list of cities participating in Joint Venture Silicon Valley

·        Amy Asked Council to review the goals and to make comments on the presentation handouts and return the comments to her.  Staff will compile the information and return to Council for direction.  Amy asked Council to focus on the goals and outcomes in providing direction.
