SUBJECT: Board and Commission Resignation – Information Only

REPORT IN BRIEF

As outlined in City policy, this report is to inform the Council that we recently received a letter of resignation (Attachment A) from a Planning Commissioner. Christopher Moylan, who was appointed to the Planning Commission in June 2003 for a second term to expire in June 2007, resigned on November 28, 2005 due to his election to City Council.

EXISTING POLICY

Administrative Policy, Chapter 1, General Management, Article 15, Subdivision 8 states that when a resignation letter is received from a Board or Commission member, staff shall prepare an Information Only Report to Council that indicates the resignation(s) and specifies the process that staff recommends to fill the new vacancy(ies).

DISCUSSION

The Planning Commission consists of seven members.  With Mr. Moylan’s resignation, there are six remaining members.  Four members constitute a quorum. This unscheduled vacancy resulting from the aforementioned resignation will be added to the City’s upcoming Spring 2006 recruitment. Assuming a successful recruitment, staff anticipates that Council will be able to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term effective July 1, 2006.
