ATTACHMENT B
Intergovernmental Council (IGC) of Santa Clara County/Council Representation
POLICY PURPOSE:
The County charter provides that there shall be an Intergovernmental Council to review and recommend on matters of County-wide importance. Each City designates a member(s) to serve on the IGC. Traditionally, the City Council has designated the Mayor as its representative, however, no formal policy existed in the past. It is the purpose of this policy to establish a procedure for selection of the City’s IGC representative and to define a term of office.
POLICY STATEMENT:
It is in the interest of the City of Sunnyvale to be represented on the IGC in a manner which: (1) increases the City representative’s understanding and influence on issues affecting Sunnyvale and the County; (2) allows the opportunity for the Sunnyvale representative to play a leadership role on the IGC; and, (3) increases the potential for Sunnyvale to serve as an example and a leader in instituting change on the IGC.
Therefore:
I. The term of office for the Sunnyvale representative shall be two years.
II. The issue of selection of the representative shall be placed on the agenda of the Council meeting following the meeting when Councilmembers are seated every odd numbered year.
III. Should a vacancy exist during a two year term, the Council will select a member to serve the remainder of that term.
