Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Update

The City Council met in study session at City Hall in the West Conference Room, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California on June 7, 2005 at 5:30 p.m., with Vice Mayor Ron Swegles presiding.

Study Session Summary:

 

·         Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and Onizuka Air Force Station

Staff provided an overview of the BRAC process and the implications for Onizuka Air Force Station. Council concurred with staff recommendations including holding a public hearing to solicit community input, work with Congresswoman Anna Eshoo’s office, and begin to explore formation of a Land Re-Use Authority.

 

·         Housing Issues for the 129th Rescue Wing 

Staff briefed Councilmembers on the status of Moffett Field housing and the 129th Rescue Wing’s concern about the lack of affordable housing in the area. Councilmembers discussed ways in which the City could alleviate this concern.  Council concurred with staff’s recommendation to include housing options for the 129th in their August 16th study session on housing programs, and consider deferring a decision on the Housing Trust Fund request.
