SUBJECT: Board and Commission Resignation – Information Only

REPORT IN BRIEF

As outlined in City policy, this report is to inform the Council that we recently received a letter of resignation (Attachment A). Marc Ketzel, who was appointed to the Personnel Board in June 2003 for a term to expire in June 2007, resigned on October 8, 2005 due to a business-related relocation.

EXISTING POLICY

Administrative Policy, Chapter 1, General Management, Article 15, Subdivision 8 states that when a resignation letter is received, staff shall prepare an Information Only Report to Council that indicates the resignation(s) and specifies the process that staff recommends to fill the new vacancy(ies).

DISCUSSION

The Personnel Board consists of five members.  With Mr. Ketzel’s resignation, there are four remaining members.  Three members constitute a quorum. This unscheduled vacancy resulting from the aforementioned resignation has been added to the City’s current Fall recruitment. Assuming a successful recruitment, staff anticipates that Council will be able to fill the vacancy in January 2006.
