SUBJECT:

2005-0023 – City of SunnyvaleInterim Policy Regarding Movement of Street Furniture on the 100 Block of South Murphy Avenue.

REPORT IN BRIEF

The City Council, in approving the Streetscape Revitalization Plan for the 100 Block of South Murphy Avenue on November 22, 2005, asked staff to return to them with the revised interim policy regarding the movement of street furniture on Murphy Avenue. This report transmits the Interim Policy as requested by the City Council.

BACKGROUND

On November 22, 2005, the City Council approved the Streetscape Revitalization Plan for the 100 Block of South Murphy Avenue. It also approved an interim policy on moving street furniture at the request of merchants and property owners. This policy will be valid during the interim time period between the Murphy Avenue Streetscape Design Plan project approval and completion of the first phase of implementation. Two revisions to the interim policy were discussed by staff and approved by Council: that an application for moving furniture must be reviewed and approved by the Sunnyvale Downtown Association, and that the proposed move must be consistent with the approved Streetscape Revitalization Plan. Council requested that the final wording of the policy be returned to the City Council as a Consent Item on the next agenda.
