Update of the Community Engagement Sub-Element

The City Council met in study session at City Hall in the West Conference Room, 456 W. Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, California on July 24, 2007 at 5:30 p.m., with Vice Mayor Anthony Spitaleri presiding.

City Councilmembers Present:

Mayor Otto Lee, Vice Mayor Anthony Spitaleri, John Howe, Dean J. Chu, Ron Swegles, Melinda Hamilton, Christopher R. Moylan

City Councilmembers Absent:  None

City Staff Present:  Amy Chan - City Manager, Robert Walker - Assistant City Manager, David Kahn - City Attorney, Don Johnson, Director of Public Safety, Dayton Pang – Public Safety, John Gienger – Director of Office of Emergency Services, Patricia Lord – Community Resources Manager

Call to Order: 5:30 p.m.

Study Session Summary:  Councilmembers reviewed the Update of the 1995 Community Participation Sub-element and provided feedback on the proposed draft of the 2007 Community Engagement Sub-Element.  The study session included:  summary of the work plan, purpose of the sub-element update project, an overview of the draft document, analysis of Community Condition Indicators, revised Goals and Policies, and vision statement for community engagement in Sunnyvale.  Staff provided feedback, and staff advised Council that the next phase of the project is to release the draft document for public comment.
