The City Council met in study session at City Hall in the West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, California on Tuesday February 12, 2008 at 4:32 p.m. with Vice Mayor Melinda Hamilton presiding.

Study Session Summary:
Introductions
Council, staff and members of the public introduced themselves.
Revised Redwood Square plans for Town Center redevelopment
Hanson Hom, Director of Community Development provided an overview of the Planning Commission approvals for the Redwood Square and a status report on the Town Center redevelopment construction activities.
Steve Lynch, Senior Planner provided an overview of the revised Redwood Square landscape plans.
Council Comments and Questions of Staff
Councilmembers made comments and posed questions (staff responses follow):
· Will the lemon trees be fruit bearing?
o Yes. Maintenance will be required; ripe fruit will likely be donated to charity.
· Will the escalator near Macy’s potentially conflict with concert patrons?
o Yes, however an escalator is required and the revised location has fewer conflicts
· Are their elevators as well as escalators?
o Yes, at least two
· What other green materials are proposed, besides the permeable pavers?
o Recycled roof tiles and timbers from Town and Country
o IPE materials for the decking around the redwood trees
o 70% of plants will be drought tolerant
o High efficiency lights and fixtures including LED lights
· Will the lights have color as shown on one plan?
o They could.
· Councilmember appreciates returning to the Planning Commission with the revised plans
· What material is proposed for the patio roof (at the south end of Redwood Square)
o Recycled timbers covered with wisteria.
