The City Council met for a study session regarding the Water Resources Sub-Element at City Hall in the West Conference Room, 456 West Olive Avenue on June 10, 2008 at 6:15 p.m. with Vice-Mayor Melinda Hamilton presiding.

Vice-Mayor Hamilton called the meeting to order at 6:25 P.M.

 

Study Session Summary

  1. Introduction – City Manager Amy Chan introduced the purpose of the Study session.

 

  1. Background of Water Resource Sub-Element – Public Works Superintendent Jim Craig summarized using a PowerPoint presentation.

 

    1. Recent History, Current Conditions, Future Issues & Opportunities, Long-Range Goals, Policies, and Action Strategies of water supply sources, water distribution system and water quality.
    2. State of the art System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor water supply & distribution zone pressures, water storage and well sites. In addition, sewer lift stations and storm pump stations.
    3. Drought conditions noting the Governor’s declaration and that both the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) & the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) have issued requests for voluntary 10% rationing and what the City would do if it became mandatory, referring to our 2005 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP).
    4. Superintendent Jim Craig also used a City map to point out the Recycled Water Distribution System with current customers and projected future extensions. Also discussed were the three different pressure zones within the City for water pressure purposes.
    5. Schedule of process beyond this meeting, including public comment period, review by Planning Commission, return to Council for final approval.

 

  1. After presentation Superintendent Jim Craig thanked the City Council for their time and asked if there were any questions.
