COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

The Sunnyvale Community Development Department is one of eleven City departments. Its functions include activities related to development services, long-range community planning, economic prosperity, and neighborhood stability. The hub of the department is the One-Stop Permit Center. The Center provides all development related services in one location including building permits, building inspections, business licenses, housing services, plan checking, planning permits, economic development, and other general services.

 

The Community Development Department is comprised of the following five divisions:

 

Building Division

The Building Division reviews permit applications for compliance with all applicable State and local building codes (building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and energy efficiency) and regulations. Planning Division

The Planning Division provides information on land use, zoning, site development standards, general plan policies and Council directed study issues. Economic Development

Demographic and economic information can be obtained from the Economic Development Division. Housing Division

General information about housing in Sunnyvale can be obtained from the Housing Division. This division assists property owners in obtaining rehabilitation loans and grants for both residential and commercial properties and provides information on below- market rate rental and purchase program. Neighborhood Preservation

The Neighborhood Preservation Division responds to citizen concerns regarding potential nuisance, housing, or zoning code violations. The division assists property owners in complying with all applicable property maintenance codes.
