WASTE DISPOSAL: WHAT GOES WHERE?

Recycle the following items:

  • Paint material/tree branches, leaves, etc.
  • Wood, broken asphalt, and concrete (check with your local landfill)
  • Water-based paints
  • Used motor oil (curbside pickup)
  • Unused Antifreeze

Dispose these types of items as trash:

  • Construction debris from small projects
  • Dry, empty paint cans, spent brushes, rages, and drop cloths
  • Small amounts of dry mortar, grout, etc.

Household hazardous waste disposal

Household hazardous wastes include unwanted household, shop and garden products that are caustic, corrosive, toxic, or flammable. Examples of household hazardous waste are fertilizers, pesticides, paints, solvents and automotive fluids. Placing these products in the garbage may cause harm to collection personnel and pollute the environment when sent to the landfill.

Residential customers may bring household hazardous waste to quarterly drop-off events conducted by the City. Call the City of Sunnyvale Recycling Program at (408) 730-7262  or visit the Hazardous Waste section of the Solid Waste/Recycling Division's web site for more information about household hazardous waste, what you can and cannot bring to the drop-off event, and the schedule of drop-off events.

Other Cities may hold special drop-off/disposal days. Call (408) 299-7300 for information.
