The Board of Equalization
The Board of Equalization administers tax programs in four areas: sales and use taxes, property taxes, special taxes and the tax appellate program. You are generally required to obtain a California Seller's permit if you sell or lease merchandise, vehicles, or other tangible property in California. A Seller's permit allows you to sell items at the wholesale or retail level.
