Neighborhood Enhancement Program

The Neighborhood Enhancement Program is a cooperative effort between residents of a selected specific area and the City of Sunnyvale. The goal of the program is to achieve compliance with City of Sunnyvale Municipal Code (SMC), Uniform Housing Code (UHC) and California Building Code (CBC), and to improve the appearance and safety of the homes and properties in the area.

Once the Neighborhood Enhancement Program area is selected, Neighborhood Preservation staff begins having routine public meetings with the residents and property owners in the Program area. The purpose of the meetings is for Neighborhood Preservation staff to learn about the neighborhood and to gain the trust and cooperation of the community. In the process, Neighborhood Preservation staff can educate and motivate people in the program area to improve the conditions and appearance of their properties. The program may include presentations, techniques, products, information, services or incentives to improve the properties.

As the program progresses, specific issues or code violations at each property will be identified. The issues or violations will be presented and explained to the residents and the property owners. Neighborhood Preservation staff will work with the residents and property owners to correct or resolve the issues.

The Neighborhood Preservation Program began in 2001 as an outcome of a comprehensive survey of single-family homes in the City.
