Bluegrass musicians and singers from around the region gather in Sunnyvale for an old-time jam session the third Sunday of each month, 1-4:30 p.m., at the Creative Arts Center, located at the Sunnyvale Community Center
, 550 E. Remington Drive. When the weather is nice, small groups often play outdoors in view of the Community Center pond, their lively tunes greeting neighbors walking in the park.
All traditional bluegrass instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, fiddle and dobro) are welcome. Other acoustic instruments may participate with song leader approval. No electric or amplified instruments, please. Music selection includes, but is not limited to, bluegrass standards. As is traditional for bluegrass jams, participants take turns as song leader, announcing the song selection and harmony, if any.
No instrumental or vocal instruction is provided. Participants must be able to tune their own instruments and play at a basic level. Jams are facilitated by Bill Boiko.
Jams are open to musicians ages 18 and up, and ages 13-17 when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Cost is $5 per person payable at the door. For more information, call (408) 730-7725.
