“An exceptional world music ambassador,” according to Jazz Times, singer Kat Parra pushes well beyond the conventions of Latin Jazz to include rhythms and inspiration from Brazil, Peru, the Middle East, even 15th century Spain. She performs selections from her recently released CD, Las Aventuras de Pasion, including the crowd-pleasing Mardi Gras classic “Iko Iko,” Linda Rondstadt’s “Lo Siento Mi Vida” and originals that set ancient Sephardic lyrics to modern Latin American grooves. Critically acclaimed Kat Parra sings fluently in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Ladino. She is backed by some of the Bay Area’s best: pianist and musical director Murray Low, multi-instrumentalist Masaru Koga, bassist Chris Lopes, drummer Dan Foltz and percussionist Katja Cooper.
