Experienced potters from around the region enjoy each other's company and a gorgeous panoramic view while working on a variety of individual projects during Sunnyvale's Open Pottery Studio sessions in the Creative Arts Center, located at the
Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Drive.
Sunnyvale's Pottery Studio is a spacious and well-equipped facility with 15 electric pottery wheels, a kick wheel, slab roller, spray booth and extruder. Our facility has two 16.5 cubic foot electric kilns and two 24 cubic foot gas kilns, with cone 10 oxidation, reduction and low-fire Raku capabilities. Although no pottery instruction is provided during Open Studio hours, technical assistance with equipment, advice on firing projects and ceramic demonstrations are available from experienced kiln technicians.
Open Pottery Studio hours are Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Fridays, 2-6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The Pottery Studio is closed on City holidays and for brief maintenance periods at the end of each 12-week session.
Sunnyvale's Open Pottery Studio welcomes intermediate and advanced level potters ages 18 and up. Open Studio Passes are for a four-hour work session, and may be purchased in the Studio. Cost is $25 for residents, $31 for non-residents. Also, all clay must be purchased in the studio, Cost is $28 per 25-pound bag. These prices are effective August 1, 2011.
Our Open Studio Pass price includes glazing and firing for projects created in Sunnyvale classes or open studio, but no glazing or firing of outside projects is permitted. All pieces to be fired must be suitable for group firings, and no larger than 20" x 20" x 24". Fired pieces are available for pick up during open studio hours; please allow 3-4 weeks for firing. Larger or irregularly shaped pieces may be held and fired during maintenance closures.
For safety reasons, no dangling jewelry or open-toed shoes are permitted in the Studio.
